Practice route around Atherton Driving Test Centre
One of the practice routes we drive around Atherton Driving Test Centre. It starts off Bag Lane in the town centre, works out on Leigh Road (B5215) and Lovers Lane, runs through Westhoughton on Lower Leigh Road and the Washacre estate roads, then comes back along Wigan Road (A58), Park Road and Platt Lane before the Gibfield Park roundabouts and Wigan Road (A577). It mixes roundabouts, higher-speed A-road driving, estate roads and stop-start town traffic in one run. This is an approximate map of roads we actually drive, not an official DVSA test route.

- Pull out onto Bag Lane, then turn left onto Factory Street West.
- Turn left onto Sumner Street, then right at the end of the road onto Leigh Road (B5215).
- Turn left onto Bee Fold Lane, then right onto Hamilton Street.
- Turn left at the end of the road back onto Leigh Road (B5215).
- Turn right onto Lovers Lane (B5235) and follow it on.
- Merge slightly right onto Schofield Lane, continuing straight onto Lower Leigh Road (B5235).
- Go straight ahead at the roundabout, then take the left exit onto Leigh Road (B5235).
- Turn left onto Washacre, then left at the end of the road onto Southfield Drive.
- Turn right at the roundabout to stay on Southfield Drive.
- Turn right onto Wigan Road (A58), then right again onto Cricketers Way (A58).
- Continue straight as it becomes Park Road (A58).
- Turn right onto Platt Lane and follow it straight onto North Road.
- At the roundabout, bear slightly left onto Gibfield Park Avenue, then take the left turn.
- Turn back and follow Gibfield Park Avenue to the left, straight ahead at the roundabout onto Gibfield Park Way.
- At the large roundabout, bear slightly left onto Wigan Road (A577).
- Bear slightly left at the next roundabout, taking the left exit to stay on Wigan Road (A577).
- Turn left onto Factory Street West, then right onto Bag Lane to finish.
